George Carlin was an American stand-up comedian, actor, social critic, and author, who won five Grammy Awards for his comedy albums. Carlin was famous for his black humor as well as his thoughts on politics, the English language, psychology, religion, and different taboo subjects. Carlin and his "Seven Dirty Words" comedy custom were central to the 1978 U.S. Supreme Court case F.C.C. v. Pacifica Foundation, in which a narrow 5–4 decision by the justices avowed the government's power to regulate indecent material on the public airwaves. Julia Child was an American chef, television celebrity and author. She is known for introducing French cuisine to the American public with her entrance cookbook, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, and her succeeding television programs, the most famous of which was The French Chef, which premiered in 1963. Child joined the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) after result that she was too tall to join in the Women's Army Corps (WACs) or in the U.S. Navy through the WAVES. Child began her OSS occupation as a typist at its headquarters in Washington.
