Jacquelyn Mayer

Jacquelyn Jeanne "Jackie" Mayer is a former Miss Ohio 1962 and Miss America 1963 and now travels the United States as a motivational speaker, famous for her recovery from a near-fatal stroke suffered at age 28. She was crowned Miss Ohio in 1962 which permitted her to enter the Miss America pageant that year. On September 8, 1962, in front of an audience of 30,000 at the Atlantic City's Boardwalk Hall and watched by millions further across America, she was crowned Miss America for 1963. For over 20 years, Mayer has dedicated her life to supplementary stroke survivors and their families. She was speaks to several of schools, colleges and corporations each year. She is an associate of the Ohio Women's Hall of Fame, induct in 1997. In the spring of 2001, Jackie was reward the first ever Honorary Doctorate Degree from Lourdes College in Sylvania, Ohio. The part of State Route 2 that runs through Erie County is named "Jackie Mayer Miss America Highway" in her honor.

Mary Ann Mobley

Mary Ann Mobley was former Miss America, actress, and television personality. She wedded actor Gary Collins in 1967. Their daughter, Mary Clancy Collins, is a superior Vice President with MGM Television. After helping her reign as Miss America 1959, Mobley embarked on what has been a long career in both film and television. She has been active in many generous causes and was awarded the Outstanding Young Woman of the Year Award in 1966 by Mrs. Lyndon B. Johnson. Mobley appeared in many movies, and on such television shows as Fantasy Island, Custer, Mission: Impossible and The Love Boat. She landed a chronic role on the show Falcon Crest and played Maggie McKinney/Drummond in Different caress during the series' final season, replacing Dixie Carter. Mobley was an infrequent panelist on Match Game in the 1970s and appeared on Super Password with Collins during the 1980s. Coincidentally, Mobley once show as a guest star on Designing Women, which starred Dixie Carter.

Yolande Fox

Yolande Betbeze Fox was the Miss America in 1951. Fox entered Miss Alabama for the scholarship chance the pageant presented. Having been educated in a convent school, she was unwilling to pose in a swimsuit and refused to do so after she won Miss America. That led the swim suit company, Catalina, to take out their sponsorship of the Miss America pageant and eventually brought about the creation of the rival Miss USA pageant. The Miss America Organization has claimed that Fox's actions were essential in directing pageant progress towards recognizing intellect, values, and leadership capability, rather than focus on beauty alone. From then on the Miss America pageant intense more on scholarship than beauty. Fox was an opera singer and did gain a standing in that area. She was occasionally seen "dating" baseballer Joe Dimaggio, although it was later exposed they were only close friends. She married Matthew Fox and they had a daughter.

Venus Ramey

Venus Ramey was Miss America in 1944, and was the first red-haired competitor to win the title. Ramey compete as Miss District of Columbia and worked during her reign to help win suffrage for Washington D.C. in 1945. Later, she become the first Miss America to run for public office, looking for a seat in the Kentucky House of Representatives. She was wooed by Hollywood in 1947, but, appalled with show business, she returned home to her Eubank, Kentucky tobacco farm in Pulaski County, Kentucky. She wedded and raised two sons. In the 1970s, Ramey successfully campaign to save Over-the-Rhine, a neighborhood in Ohio. The neighborhood was finally listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and her work led her to create an unsuccessful bid for a spot on the Cincinnati City Council. Ramey was serious of later Miss America winners Vanessa L. Williams (1984) and Kate Shindle (1998), calling the former a "slut" for posing nude in a photo shoot, and blasting the latter for her sustain of condom distribution in schools.
